4-day desert trip from Rabat to the Merzouga desert
Day 1: Rabat – Merzouga via Azrou to Midelt
You will be greeted by our guide in Rabat, and we will then go on a 5-day journey to Marrakech via the largest cedar forest in Morocco, where we will encounter apes, particularly a species known as the macaque. We then continue on the picturesque route to our last destination, the huge African desert known as the Sahara, where we will do camel trekking and spend our first night in a luxurious camp among the sand dunes. Private tents with cozy beds and hot water will be provided for us. Under a starry sky, there is dinner and music.
Day 2: Sahara Desert exploration
Today’s day will begin with a breathtaking sunrise over a sea of sand dunes. After meeting our driver/guide at the camp, we’ll drive around looking for local nomads to drink a cup of tea with and learn more about how they survive in the Sahara Desert. In order to see how a group of villagers use a clever system to carry water from the Sand dunes to their plots in the Oasis, we will drive off-road to visit an oasis. After that, we’ll eat a classic Berber meal of pizza. Finally, we will have some free time to unwind in the hotel. Breakfast in the hotel.
Day 3: Dades Valley – Sahara – Todra Gorges – and Ouarzazate
We will depart the Sahara Desert and go to Ouarzazate, known as the Hollywood of Africa, which will be our destination for the day. En route, we will pass by the stunning Todra Gorges, where we will spend an hour admiring the 300 m high cliffs. We’ll keep going till we reach Dades Valley, from which we can see the entire region. Finally, on the way to Ouarzazate, we’ll pass through Rose Valley, the site of a yearly festival of roses that takes place in May.
Day 4: Ozoud Waterfalls – Ouarzazate – and Ait Benhaddou
The Taourirt Kasbah, which is in the city’s center, will be where we begin our fourth day. From there, we’ll drive to Ait Benhaddou Kasbah, the most ancient and well-preserved village in Morocco, where a number of major international films, including The Mummy, The Game of Thrones, Indiana Jones, Scorpion King, and The Babel, have been filmed. Following our visit to the Icon Village, we will continue to drive along the Ounila valley, which offers breathtaking vistas of the Atlas Mountains. Finally, we will reach Ozod Falls, which is the most stunning waterfall in Morocco. Dinner is served in-house.
Day 5: Trip to Ozoud Waterfalls from Marrakech
We will have enough time today, which is our last day, to enjoy a cup of mint tea in front of the falls. The waterfalls drop 110 meters. We’ll get to know people from various cities. We will travel to Marrakech, the Red City, after lunch. I appreciate you coming. From Rabat to Marrakech, it takes five days.
